Mr. Chandra Chinna, Technical Manager at Picassian Polymers, a unit of Stahl Holdings, has a MS degree in Polymer Engineering and Chemistry from University of Detroit. He comes to us with fifteen years of R&D experience in the chemical industry, moving easily between exploratory research and commercial requirements.  In the course of his career he has managed exploratory research and product development groups directed at a wide variety of markets including adhesives, paints, and coatings for a variety of different industries.

Already in the early 1900's, Harry Stahl began blending chemicals in his bathtub near Boston (USA) for use in leather finishing tanneries. His skills proved so successful that he later founded the Stahl Finish Co., and quickly expanded outside the USA to meet the growing demand for leather chemicals around the world. In the decades after World War II, Stahl built new factories and laboratories in Europe, South America and Asia, in which polyurethanes, acrylics and crosslinkers were manufactured for use in Stahl’s wide range of specialty coatings and finishes. With its headquarters in Waalwijk, The Netherlands, Stahl today has 8 manufacturing sites, some 30 technical centres and 1200 employees around the world.

Since the leather industry was among the first segments to convert from solvent to waterborne polymer technology in the 1960s and 70s, Stahl was one of the first companies to develop its own polyurethane dispersions, acrylic emulsions and crosslinkers for use in coatings. During this time Stahl improved its polyurethane technology in dramatic style, thanks to the unique properties provided by its own polycarbonate diols, developed in the USA in the 1970s. This backward integration in polycarbonate polyurethane technology has been a key factor in Stahl’s technological success story over the years.

As the polymers division of Stahl, Picassian has more than 50 years of experience in polymer technology. With this solid foundation we offer formulators of coatings and inks a full range of polyurethanes, hybrid polymers, acrylics and crosslinkers to meet their strictest performance requirements. We design each product with a specific end use in mind, for a wide range of substrates including wood, plastic, metal, flexible packaging, leather and textiles, and we invest much of our time and energy developing compliant polymers that have a minimum impact on the community and the environment. From polycarbonate based polyurethanes to self crosslinking acrylics, and from hybrids based on renewable resources to VOC-free crosslinkers, Picassian’s product portfolio is broad and innovative.
