Coatings Characterization

Abstract:

There are numerous coatings characterization techniques and methods.  This lecture will focus predominantly on the use of analytical techniques for coating characterization.  Coatings characterization methods discussed will include Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.  Microscopic techniques discussed will include light microscopy (LM), confocal scanning laser microscopy (LSM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray (EDS) analysis, and correlative microscopy.
