ABSTRACT

Various coating applications may require increased surface hardness as a key requirement. Environmental regulatory bodies continue to push for lower VOC content in coatings. Dibenzoate coalescents have low vapor pressure resulting in low VOC content, allowing the formulator to explore a variety of technologies to improve this aspect while utilizing dibenzoates advantages in gloss and scrub resistance. An example has been developed in DTM to show this concept. In this paper, various coalescent blends of dibenzoates are explored to increase Konig hardness and maintain low VOC levels.
